KNOWLTON CHURCH
Knowlton Church, A brief history
Knowlton Church & Earthworks was built in the 12th century and was originally a Norman Church which was curiously built on remains of a neolithic henge, which was a very unusual thing.
Knowlton Church has undergone many transformations in the centuries up until now and had major work in both the 15th & 18th century it was also very nearly abandoned in the 15th century but had a small revival which kept it going but in the 18th century it was finally abandoned for good
Today it is a ruin without a roof but it can clearly be seen how it used to look centuries ago.
Knowlton Church has also achieved fame for reasons of paranormal activity, it is rumoured to be one of the most haunted sites in the UK and is a magnet to Pagans who flock to it to welcome the solstice.
